Work First NJ & FVO Program

The Family Violence Option (FVO) Program assists clients of the New Jersey Department of Human Services (DHS) who are victims of domestic violence.

Through the FVO Program, clients may be able to obtain a waiver from certain requirements of the Work First NJ program, which include the time limit on benefits, work requirements, the limitation on an increase in cash assistance benefits as a result of the birth of a child, and child support cooperation requirements.For more information about the FVO Program, you can also visit the DHS website or contact your County Welfare Agency or contact your local domestic violence program.

Crime Victim Compensation

If you are the victim in a domestic violence criminal case, you may be eligible to register with the Crime Victim Compensation Program.

Compensation benefits may be awarded up to a maximum of $25,000 per claim to reimburse victims for costs resulting from the crime, which can include medical expenses, loss of support from the offender, limited transportation costs , counseling for victim and immediate family members, and relocation expenses.
