Description

Checking Privilege while Working with Immigrant DV Survivors
May 5, 2018
10 AM-4 PM

Rupande Mehta, MPH

In this workshop, attendees will learn about how privilege can play out in the way we deliver services to survivors of violence, and how intersectionality, checking our privilege and cultural humility can create cultural competence. We will also explore what particular challenges advocates face while working with immigrant survivors and how these can be overcome. In particular, we will explore trauma informed advocacy methods of cultural competency and cultural humility to challenge existing assumptions and educate for intersectionality. Using activities and examples, we will attempt to build a model that ensures exclusivity for immigrant survivors of violence.
