Technology is a powerful tool. Technology can be used to help support victims’ safety plans and increases their connection to family, friends, emergency services, and ongoing support. However, technology can be also be a powerful tool used by perpetrators who seek to track, intimidate and control their victims. It is critical that victims’ safety plans consider technology and how a victims’ access may be compromised or denied by their abusive partner. In addition, it is important for individuals to also assess how an abusive partner may be using technology to further enhance their control over their victim. The National Network to End Domestic Violence (NNEDV) Safety Net Program provides invaluable resources and tools that can assist victims and survivors, advocates, law enforcement, and community members in their response to technology abuse and tech safety issues.
