Institute Training: Client to Colleague, Incorporating Survivors as Volunteers and Staff in the DV Agency: A Trauma Informed Model
10/21/2015 @ 10:00 am - 1:00 pm
Trauma informed practice often calls for the creation of opportunities for survivors. Survivors of domestic violence often wish to “give back” and may look to the domestic violence agency that they themselves received services from to volunteer. Even though Domestic Violence agencies struggle with the ethical dilemma of dual relationships, exploitation and safety concerns, moving from client to colleague is not an impossible task.
This workshop will assist DV agencies in creating opportunities for former clients to become part of the solution in ending domestic violence. Including survivor voices in the agency story is integral in both service delivery and in keeping staff motivated and connected to the cause. We will explore various models that have been used successfully across the nation and in particular how one agency created a Survivor Volunteer Advocate Committee.
