Description: The Bilingual (Spanish Speaking ) Pro Se Victim Assistant will provide crisis intervention, safety planning, and legal advocacy to walk in clients seeking assistance with the civil legal process, specifically the restraining Order process. Reports directly to the Program Coordinator.
- Conduct comprehensive intake with client • Assess for risk of danger, utilizing standardized risk assessment tools • Assist client with the development of safety plan for self and child/ren • Provide support and court accompaniment to victims of domestic violence who are proceeding pro se through the civil protective process • Provide information about victim’s legal options available for victims of domestic violence • Facilitate/Accompany the videoconference temporary restraining order for select high risk cases or domestic violence hearing in family court.
- Provide information about the Prevention of Domestic Violence Act and related statutes • Explain how proceedings work; evidence requirements • Facilitate referrals to appropriate civil legal services • Facilitate referrals to on-site and off-site law enforcement agencies, when appropriate • Explain available resources and services and facilitate referrals to onsite and offsite service providers • Assess need for immediate services and provide referrals to onsite and offsite service providers • Maintain accurate and confidential records
- Minimum of bachelor’s degree
- Minimum of two years experience in domestic violence field required • Completion of 40 hours domestic violence course preferred • NJ Domestic Violence Specialist certification preferred • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively • Bilingual Spanish preferred
