Trauma Informed Art Therapy: Utilizing Art Strategies to Promote Healing

This workshop is designed to promote a greater understanding of creative, trauma- informed practices. Participants will be provided information to better understand the impact of trauma, PTSD, and Complex PTSD, and the importance of utilizing a trauma- informed approach. We will discuss best practices and implementing art and other creative approaches with survivors individually, in group, and in family counseling. This training includes didactic, discussion, case examples, hands- on activities to facilitate learning. Participants will have several opportunities to create art and participate in discussion of various techniques and the use of different art mediums. Focus will be given to art activities designed to address safety, to empower, enhance resilience, process traumatic material, to promote self-efficacy, self- expression, and increase self- esteem.
