Shelter Advocate (Full-Time)
Summary: The Shelter Advocate is a direct service position that has primary responsibility for assisting, advocating, and empowering survivors of domestic violence and their families who are residing in the emergency shelter to be safe, empowered and have increased ability to be independent and free of abuse.
Requirements: Candidates must possess a bachelor’s degree, have knowledge and understanding of domestic violence and trauma, and computer skills. Bilingual (Spanish-English) strongly preferred.
Essential Duties: The Shelter Advocate is responsible for overseeing safety of clients, creating an empowering, supportive living environment, and modeling healthy boundaries and respectful behavior. The Shelter Advocate provides the Director of Residential Services with information on potential problems and assists in the development of solutions. The Shelter Advocate provides crisis counseling, safety planning, information and referrals, and shelter screening for clients and the 24 hour domestic violence hotline. Other duties include entering and maintaining client records in the client software. Must maintain a flexible schedule to meet the needs of the shelter.
